The Gujranwala Giants and the Mardan Warriors played the first game of the Pakistan Junior League on October 6. Each of the six teams will be led by a famous person from the past. The head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Ramiz Raja, said that the league will be a “city-based tournament in which players, including international age-group cricketers, will be chosen through a draft process.”
Shahid Afridi will be in charge of the Mardan Warriors, and West Indies legend Vivian Richards will watch over the young Gwadar Sharks. Shoaib Malik will lead the Gujranwala Giants, and Colin Munro will lead the Rawalpindi Raiders. Also Imran Tahir the mentors of the Bahawalpur Royals and Darren Sammy the mentors of Hyderabad Hunters.
During the round-robin stage, which runs from October 6 to 16, each of the six teams will play each other once. The first Qualifier will feature a matchup between the two best teams, with the winner advancing to the finals. The participant who earns the highest score in the second round of qualifying will move on to the semifinals. The championship will be contested on October 21. All 19 games will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The league will also have players from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, South Africa, England, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. There will be competition between nine English players and two West Indians, Nathan Edwards and Isai Thorne.
The first game of the first season of Pakistan Junior will be played on October 6 at 9 p.m. at Lahore’s Gaddafi stadium between the Gujranwala Giants and the Mardan Warriors. The Pakistan Junior Competition 2022 is the country’s first under-19 league, and international cricketers in their age groups were chosen through a draft to play in the league. This franchise league is based in six places, and its six teams will play 19 games.
The six younger teams will be led by some of the best national U19 and senior teams. The team has two foreign coaches: Gordon Parsons and Toby Radford, and Radford will be in charge of Rawalpindi, and Parsons will be in charge of the city of Bahawalpur.
Playoffs and losers in the Pakistan Junior League:
For the PJL 2022 playoffs, teams must finish in the top four spots in the points standings. The top two teams will play each other in a qualifying round for the playoffs, and the winner will go straight to the Finals. The third and fourth teams will play each other in the first elimination game, and the winner will move on to play the losers of the second elimination game.
