South African cricket legend Mickey Arthur has agreed to take over as head coach of the Pakistan cricket team. According to reports, the 14-member management committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), led by Najam Sethi, approached the former South African cricketer about his role in the new setup.
Arthur was the coach of the Pakistan national cricket team from 2016 to 2019. The PCB decided not to renew the contracts of Arthur and his support staff after the side finished fifth at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019. During his tenure as coach, Pakistan won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy in England and climbed to the top of the ICC T20I Team Rankings.

The new PCB management has sacked the governing body, the Mohammad Wasim-led selection committee, and reportedly decided not to extend the contracts of head coach Saqlain Mushtaq and bowling coach Shaun Tait.
The coalition government fired Ramiz Raja, and Najam Sethi was appointed to the PCB’s interim board.
Najam Sethi began making significant changes to the national cricket team and the board’s structure as soon as he started working for the PCB. Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi was named head of the selection committee last week.
Our Job Is To Perform And To Apply Our Best – Babar Azam
When asked if his team is in the right frame of mind to win the series against New Zealand after all these incidents, the change of guard in the PCB, the selection committee and four consecutive Test defeats, skipper Babar Azam said they are focused on their game.
“The way things are going on and in the last few days changes have come, I think as a professional you are to face such things,” Babar Azam said.

“But our job is to perform and to apply our best. Look, these things are off the ground and our entire focus is on the ground and how to win a match and how to start well this series and how to deliver in all three departments,” he added.
