Former Australia National Cricket Team pacer Shaun Tait has said that the batting performance of the India National Cricket Team stood out the most in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series-opening clash at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur.
The first Test between the Rohit Sharma-led India and the Pat Cummins-led Australia got finished within three days. India thrashed the visitors and won by an innings and 132 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Meanwhile, the second match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from February 17 to 21.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Shaun Tait said that the pitch on offer at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium was pretty good.
“It looked like a pretty good wicket to be honest. Not a rank-turner like you said. We did not get to see the whole potential of the pitch because the game got over in three days. But it was good to watch,” said Tait.

Further, he added that India’s batting performance was the key difference between the two sides in the match.
“Australia have got a few good spinners as well. The way India batted was what stood out the most in this game, let alone the spin bowling. Obviously, Rohit and the guys at the end who put up a good partnership was the difference for me. I think it was a good wicket,” Tait added.

The 36-year-old opener David Warner failed miserably against India in the first Test alongside most of the Aussie batters. He scored 1 run in the first innings before being bamboozled by Mohammed Shami.
Also, in the second innings, he scored 10 runs before being trapped LBW by Ravichandran Ashwin. The senior opener could reportedly be dropped from the team in favour of Travis Head for the second Test.
Meanwhile, Shaun Tait said that Warner knows what he needs to do to succeed on Indian soil.
“David knows what he needs to do. He has spoken about concentrating and batting for long periods of time. But when Ashwin is constantly threatening that off stump, there is only so much you can do against a bowler in that form. Sitting against Ashwin and defending is not going to help Warner,” Tait further added.
