Cricket South Africa is considering granting Dané van Niekerk a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in the Women’s T20 Challenge after she was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Despite not meeting the minimum fitness requirements, it is unlikely that CSA will stand in her way and instead use the WPL to facilitate her return to the national side. A final decision on the NOC will be made after a meeting with CSA’s director of cricket Enoch Nkwe and the CSA medical team.

Despite its policy of granting NOCs only to players who meet the minimum fitness requirements, Cricket South Africa (CSA) is unlikely to stand in Dané van Niekerk’s way, and instead, use the Women’s T20 Challenge to facilitate her return to the national side.

The decision may cause controversy, as CSA threatened to deny a NOC to Lizelle Lee last year due to her failing to meet their weight requirement. Lee chose to step away from international cricket and has since relocated to Australia.
She was not called up at the Women’s T20 Challenge auction on Monday. A final decision on van Niekerk’s NOC will be made after a meeting with CSA’s director of cricket and medical team.

Dané van Niekerk, who was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women’s T20 Challenge, is a centrally contracted player for South Africa, and there were concerns that she might leave the national team if her WPL deal proved more lucrative.
However, her WPL deal of approximately US$37,000 is similar in value to her CSA contract. Nevertheless, with endorsements and match fees, she is expected to earn more than double her CSA contract amount. On the other hand, van Niekerk’s wife, Marizanne Kapp, was bought for US$183,000, which is worth over R3.2 million, making her deal significantly more than any domestic contract.
