Babar Azam-led Pakistan suffered a hefty loss against Sri Lanka in the virtual semi-final of the Asia Cup 2023. In a game that was marred by rain and significantly shortened, Pakistan posted a subpar total on the board and failed to defend as they were eliminated from the Asia Cup.

Despite getting off to a good start in the Super Four stage of the tournament by defeating Bangladesh, Pakistan faced back-to-back losses against India and Sri Lanka, which led to their elimination from the tournament.

After their exit from the Asia Cup, several reports came forward that stated that there was a bust-up between players in the dressing room. Speaking on the same, former Pakistan cricketer Moin Khan expressed that there was a clear lack of unity between the Pakistan players.

He reflected on how no player from the side came to skipper Babar, even wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan; he highlighted the fact that everything felt scattered, which led to their elimination.

“We saw in the entire tournament, I’ve commented about it earlier as well. No player walked towards Babar. Neither Rizwan came to him, nor even the vice-captain was coming to him. No one was going to him. It felt everyone was scattered, there was no unity,” Moin Khan told Geo TV.

Ahead of the marquee event, Pakistan will be taking on the 2019 World Cup finalists, New Zealand, in Hyderabad on September 29 and Australia on Tuesday, October 3in the ODI World Cup warm-up matches.
